Description
Pink and yellow weft blocks predominate on the maroon striped ground of the Ewe kente mens cloth. If we look carefully we can see that the geometric float motifs are focused towards the centre at only the top half of the cloth as shown in the photo. This was where they would be most visible when the cloth was draped around the owners body in use. For the customer this was more economical than the weaver distributing them over the whole cloth as weaving the motifs took both a longer time and extra thread. Dates from circa 1930s and is in excellent condition.
