“If a child wants to pick a ripe pepper, let him do it. When it gets in his eyes he will stop himself.” Anyone who challenges the Asafo Company will discover the danger for themselves. Superb mid C20th flag by the important documented flagmaker known as Mr McCarty (died circa 1955; a.k.a. Mr Mankato, birth name Kwame Boah). See Forni & Ross, Art, Honor, and Ridicule (2017:61-62) for a discussion of this significant figure and the Anomabo workshop with which he was associated and a flag by the same artist in the collection of the Fowler Museum, UCLA dated by them to around 1940. This flag was, like the UCLA example, made for Kyirem No.6 Company in Anomabo, a small town 16 km east of Cape Coast. Condition is good, has a few small holes.
Measurement: 72 inches x 43 ins, 182 cm x 110 cm
