FR664 – Small neatly woven float motifs in hand spun indigo dyed cotton distinguish this attractive Ivoirian woman’s wrapper cloth from the numerous more recent examples that usually have brightly coloured and cruder motifs. The cloth was strip woven in blue and white cotton (with a narrow red stripe at the lower edge), then the completed cloth tie dyed in indigo, a tradition distinct to central Ivory Coast. It could have been woven by either a Baule or a Dioula weaver, probably around the 1960s. In good condition, has one small worn spot – see detail photo.
Measurements: 57ins x 36ins, 145cm x 90cm.
