The Asafo officer with his amulet covered war shirt and two gun carrying supporters stands between two trees. A small bird sits in one of the trees. Illustrates an unknown proverb. Flag made by the prolific and long lived master flagmaker of the Anomabo workshop, Kwamina Amoaku (1895-1985) – See Forni & Ross, Art, Honor, and Ridicule (2017:61-62) for a discussion of this significant figure and the Anomabo workshop with which he was associated. Neat hand embroidered details and borders on the figures. The lack of a black star on the corner flag means we can date this flag quite precisely to the period between 1962 and February 1964 when Ghana’s president, Kwame Nkrumah replaced the national flag with that of his CPP party. In excellent condition.
