Description
Rustic beauty from a Mende weaver in Sierra Leone. Quite thick loosely hand spun white, natural beige, and indigo dyed cotton stripes, crossed by blocks of black and a few beige at irregular intervals throughout. Quite a modest woman’s wrapper cloth but like all hand woven cloths from Sierra Leone, not something that will turn up at all frequently. Dates from circa 1950-60s. In excellent complete condition. The strips are joined by machine sewing.
Measurements 7’9″ x 4’4″, 236 cm x 134.
