Fine indigo check hand spun cotton men’s cloth from the Dagomba or neighbouring peoples in northern Ghana. White and two shades of indigo in the warp stripes, white and indigo stripes in the weft. Dates from circa 1950. This is a strong fabric with a soft handle and in excellent complete condition. There is a lot of mostly rather poor quality and quite recent “indigo” fabric from Burkina Faso and Mali around at the moment but older and more beautiful pieces like these can still occasionally be found by patient searching in other West African countries.
Measures 105 ins X 73, 267 cm X 186.
