Superb nineteenth century Fante Asafo flag, very neatly hand sewn throughout. A leopard, representing the company that owns the flag, is a symbol of strength and speed, while the small dog is the negatively viewed rival company. I’m not sure what the enigmatic red object is. Leopard print fabric associates the flag with the high ranked company member who commissioned it. This flag has the more sparse layout and lack of a border that was typical of many early flags. Flags from this era in acceptable condition are extremely rare. Condition is excellent. Mounted on a custom made stretcher.
Measurements 50″ X 31″, 126 cm X 79 cm.
