Charming and slightly quirky bird and animal motifs lift this very pleasing Ewe chief’s kente, with distinctive representations of pairs of birds feeding on branches, numerous orange turkeys, a man leading an animal, and even a goat eating a hat. Weft faced sections are grouped in threes, rather than the typical pairs. More simple strips edge both sides of the cloth. Background is a quite masculine maroon with two sets of pale blue and yellow stripes. Dates from circa 1930s – 1950s. Condition is excellent.
Measurement: 115ins x 73, 292 cm x 185.
