Stripes are the focus of this beautiful vintage Ewe kente woman’s cloth, with the master weaver using a vibrant warp striped background in red, yellow, navy blue and white, to set off a carefully aligned display of weft faced blocks in multiple colours. Each block in the weft is built up of numerous narrow stripes, many of them woven in alternating colours to create a pattern of small squares. Typical a weaver will pair two identical or very similar weft blocks but on this exceptional cloth the majority are different from their partner. In excellent complete condition, dates from around 1930-1950.
Measurements 80 inches X 52, 203 cm X 132.
