AS627 – Attractive mixed strip aso oke strip weave from the Yoruba region of Nigeria with seven different strip patterns. Cloths that combined a number of different patterns could be called “oruko pe”, meaning “the names are complete”, although in reality there were a lot more than seven different named strip patterns at the time. Woven from industrial cotton around the 1930s or 1940s it has a slightly stiff feel from a recent washing and re-starching prior to sale back in Nigeria. In excellent condition – retains original hand stitching.
Measurement: 77 ins x 56, 197 cm x 149.
