AS631 – Fine example of the style of ikat patterned Yoruba aso oke woman’s wrapper cloth, iborun, woven mainly in Iseyin and Oyo town during the 1940s and early 1950s, in the relatively subdued palette fashionable at that period in Nigeria. Retains it’s original hand sewn seams and hems and is in excellent condition. Unlike 1960s and later aso oke which is still widely available in Nigeria markets, cloths from this period are now scarce and hard to source.
