AGB144. Woven from hand spun cotton, hand tailored and embroidered with quite a small version of the classic ‘two knives’ design, then piece dyed with indigo, this robe is typical of garments that were made by Hausa for more everyday use and for sale to the Tuareg in the Sahara dessert to the north. Relatively few examples survive because of the heavy use they received and we rarely find one for sale. Dates from circa 1950. Condition is excellent.
