E955 – Important museum quality Ewe chief’s ceremonial cloth that is the finest example I have seen in this particular classic style. We were very excited to find this cloth as pieces of this quality are extremely elusive. Clearly the work of a master weaver at the highest level of skill, the entire cloth is covered with neatly woven figures, animals, and shapes , while a strong zigzag pattern along the lower edge sets off the design dramatically. Background strips in a complex pattern of narrow warp stripes alternate the extra weft float motifs with weft faced blocks that each blend two colours in a grid pattern. Dates from circa 1930s-1950s. Condition is excellent.
Measurement: 118 inches x 76, 300 cm x 194.
