Beautiful green ground Ewe chief’s kente cloth with narrow red and yellow warp stripes. This cloth is a good example of the way in which a master weaver selects the overall layout and palette of a cloth then improvises the fine details as he weaves, adding navy blue and white in the weft and modifying the type and width of the striped blocks so that no two of the 150 or so pairs of blocks are identical. In excellent complete condition. Dates from circa 1930-1950.
Measurement: 118 ins x 77, 300 cm x 195.
