Description
Golden yellow strip weave Asante kente cloth in the distinctive pattern known as “gold dust”, sika futuro. In pre-colonial Asante gold dust was used as a currency, so this design was closely associated with wealth and luxury. I particularly like the contrast between the regularity of the borders and the great variety of different neatly woven motifs in the central field. This cloth may well have originally been wider but what remains is in excellent condition. Dates from circa 1950-1960.
Measurements 109 inches x 53, 276 cms x 135.
