Fine Silk Mixed Strip Kente

Fine silk mixed strip pattern kente.

1 in stock

A fine silk man’s kente with four different warp striped patterns and a good variety of neatly woven supplementary weft float designs. Cloths with mixed pattern strips were called “Mmaban”, meaning mixed, but each warp stripe pattern had it’s own name. Although mixed strip rayon cloths are fairly common a silk example of this quality is extremely unusual and would most likely have been commissioned for a king or senior chief in the early decades of the C20th. In excellent condition (very few tiny holes.) REF: K285

Measurement: 128 inches x 80 ins, 305cm x 203cm
