Fine mixed strip pattern Ewe kente chief’s cloth with four different strip patterns alternated. The combination of two different blue and white strips with two coloured ones is unusual, as is the lovely red and green strip pattern. We can contrast the calm careful alignment of weft pattern blocks and regular placement of strips on a planned mixed strip piece like this with the more random patterns formed by a second type that was simply assembled by the weaver from left over pieces. Dates from around 1930-1950 and is in excellent complete condition.
Measurements 10’2″ x 6’9″, 309 cm x 206.
