Description

A rather distinct style for this early twentieth century Ewe kente chief’s cloth with a very finely woven mixed pattern ground of three different warp striped strips, including one with quite unusual and beautiful braided thread stripes that give a speckled effect. Pattern blocks are set out quite sparsely on this ground, arranged carefully to give strong diagonal lines across the whole fabric. The pattern blocks are very neatly woven with small scale float motifs and subtle weft faced blocks. Overall this is a distinctive and beautiful textile. Some signs of wear and one tiny patch but overall condition is good.

Measurement: 121 inches x 75, 307 cm x 192 cm.
