E935 – This blue and white grid layout appears to have been one of the most popular Ewe kente styles at some point in the early decades of the twentieth century judging by the frequency with which old examples turn up. However most have only very simple and repetitive yellow and red weft float motifs, unlike this exceptional example in which they are very finely woven and highly varied. The effect of this is that the initial impression of overall regularity and similarity is disrupted on closer attention when we notice that subtle variations n motif that are placed throughout the cloth. Some small patched repairs and areas of rust staining Dates from circa 1920-40. Price reflects condition issues mentioned above.
