Description

Red, yellow, and pink predominate in this superb classic style Ewe chief’s kente cloth, with white hands prominent among the extra weft float motifs. A superb example of an Ewe master weaver’s artistry and the informed patronage of a wealthy chief, solid blocks of multiple narrow weft stripes in a huge variety of combinations alternate with warp striped sections that hold finely woven extra weft float motifs. Cloths of this quality were never plentiful and very few become available these days. Dates from circa 1930s-1950s. Some neat patched repairs otherwise very good condition.

Measurement: 121ins x 75, 308 cm x 191.
