Description
Soft muted colours in multiple combinations, together with intricately woven motifs make this an exceptional piece of Ewe kente cloth. Two different striped backgrounds alternate, setting off numerous subtle colours in the sets of three pattern blocks and the fine figurative float motifs including people and birds. It’s really the work of a master weaver. Sadly it has been much used over many decades and is not in great condition, with several faint stains and several patched repairs. So a tarnished beauty but still a great beauty. maybe that’s the best kind ? Dates from circa 1920s to 1940s.
