Exceptional Yoruba kijiipa

NW635 –  Superb Yoruba indigo dyed hands pun cotton woman’s weave cloth.

1 in stock

I have had this woman’s wrapper cloth at home for several years as it’s among my favourite of the numerous indigo cloth’s woven by Yoruba women that have passed through my hands. It’s austere simpilicity really appeals to me. Each of the two panels of thick hand spun cotton is divided between an intense almost black indigo section that required multiple dipping in the dye pot, and a speckled dark and pale blue “guineafowl”, “etu” in Yoruba, that was much appreciated by knowledgeable Yoruba patrons in days gone by. In excellent complete condition. Dates from circa 1900-1920.
Measurements 79 inches x 51, 201 cm x 129.
