ASF161 – Superb and extremely rare nineteenth century Fante Asafo flag from No 4 Company, “Wombir”, Elmina. Bold vigorous depiction of two men with a large cooking pot. One man dips his hand into the heated pot, illustrating the saying “it boils but it does not burn”. The boiling pot indicates rival companies that are all show and cannot really hurt. Three other flags from the same unidentified artist are on our gallery. Dates from second half of the C19th. Condition: Has been mounted on a custom made stretcher, with patches on the reverse face prior to mounting. Note that this flag is unusually small.
Measurement: 44 inches x 28 ins, 112 cm x 72 cm
