ASF182 – Fine early twentieth century Fante Asafo flag from an unidentified but often published artist whose work can be recognised by his idiosyncratic variation on the Union jack and the schematic figures. This flag probably illustrates the proverb “Only a brave man will go under a big tree,” and a similar mainly embroidered tree with diamond shaped leaves by the same artist can be seen as figure 190 in Adler & Barnard Asafo, 1982. Condition: Has been mounted on a custom made stretcher, with patches on the reverse face prior to mounting.
Measurement: 64 inches x 48 ins, 163 cm x 122 cm
