E952 – Fine example of a rare type of weft faced Ewe cloth made up of wider than usual strips, in this case each strip is 15 cm / 6 inches in width. Little is known about these obscure cloths but we can note that this example is exceptional in being in complete unrepaired condition, while most that we see are only fragments. A regular alternation of dark blue and red blocks is broken up by narrow stripes in dark blue, light blue, white, and yellow. Imported cotton is used throughout. Dates from circa 1900, perhaps earlier. Condition is excellent.
Measurement: 90 inches x 55, 228 cm x 139.
