Description

Bold red and yellow warp stripes set off the pattern blocks on this early twentieth century Ewe chief’s kente cloth. The patterns are in the distinctive three weft block style  framing pairs of matched weft float motifs. In places the master weaver has omitted the central weft faced block providing space for an elongated single weft float motif. These include several people, a snake chasing a bird, and some unusual geometric motifs.  Several strips are missing from the original cloth but the remainder is in excellent condition. Price reflects this issue. Dates from circa 1900-1920.

Measurement: 120 ins x 70, 306 cm x 178.
