fr501 – Very rare style of cloth from the eastern periphery of the Ewe speaking region in the vicinity of the town of Kpalime in Togo. The style combines wide weft faced strips with unusual supplementary weft float motifs, in this case composite patterns made up of groups of geometric designs. Most of the very small number of known examples of this style are in poor condition but exceptionally this piece is complete and intact, in excellent condition. It dates from circa 1900 or earlier.
