AGB143: Although at first glance this closely resembles a Yoruba agbada robe in structure and embroidery a closer look confirms that it is actually a Hausa version, called a riga. The colour combination with the yellow inserts and the striped sleeves are typically Hausa rather than Yoruba, and the strip woven cloth cloth used is also the work of a Hausa weaver rather than being Yoruba aso oke. The single lighter coloured curve within the spiral embroidery on the front is a unique detail. Dates from circa 1920-1950. Condition: a few faint marks on the back, otherwise excellent.
Measurements: 111 inches x 43, 282cm x 110
