Description
A really unusual design on this early C20th Yoruba asooke cloth. The weaver has used two colours in the weft (blue/white) to divide the background and set the float motifs within the lighter stripes this created. The darker ground sections are covered with dotted lines of weft floats. Altogether very distinctive and I can’t recall another similar piece. Dates from circa 1900. Retains all its original hand stitched seams and hems, and is in very good condition.
Measurements 6’4″ x 3’10”, 193 m x 116.
