K299. Distinctive blue and white cotton Asante kente men’s cloth with a minimal grid design of blue weft faced stripes in blocks on a white ground. The narrow sets of blue weft stripes have a pleasing textured effect achieved when the weaver leaves a few picks of the weft slightly loose – only Asante weavers used this technique and it’s quite rarely found. Narrow blue warp stripes down one edge of each strip. The only example I have seen of this pleasing design. Dates from circa 1920-50. Condition is very good.
Measurement: 124 inches x 72, 314 cm x 183 cm.
