E905 – A very rare example of a Ewe kente cloth with a solid cotton ground (solid rayon ground cloths became quite common in the 1960s and 1970s, and there are a few early C20th solid silk ground Ewe known.) Here there is an extensive and distinctive range of extra weft float motifs set between diamond shaped tapestry weave inserts, and in the centre, the name of the man who commissioned the cloth. Another cloth by the same master weaver is published in African Textiles by John Gillow, page 41. Dates from circa 1940-50. Condition: excellent, three small holes were re-woven by a professional conservator.

Measurement: 117 inches x 83 ins, 298 cm x 210cm
