FR630 – Fine tubular Dida cloth with classic tie dye design on the plaited raffia ground. These cloths were worn and displayed during ceremonial dances. Made only by a few women among the small population making up the Dida ethnic group in south western Ivory Coast, the remarkable textiles are plaited together from raffia palm fibres without the use of a loom, then tie dyed using natural pigments, producing a unique puckered crinkled surface. Early to mid C20th. Condition: excellent.
Measurement: approx. 38 inches + fringe x 19 inches, 97 cm + fringe x 48 cm
