E956 – Superb Ewe chief’s ceremonial cloth with multiple finely woven silk float motifs on a solid background of dark green cotton. Float motifs that are set between equal sized square sections made up of weft stripes are mostly executed in pairs of a similar image but charming variations are frequently introduced as the master weaver demonstrates his repertoire and skill. I particularly like the little turkey with it’s wattled neck and the rows of eggs. Dates from circa 1930s-1950s. Wear is apparent on some of the silk leading to small losses but otherwise this cloth is complete and in excellent condition.
Measurement: 123 inches x 69, 312 cm x 176.
