Description

Superb and exceptional cotton version of a classic Asante kente design called “sika futuro” meaning “gold dust.” The Asante used gold dust as a currency, with wealthy men carrying around a bag of powdered gold, a set of weights and a set of weighing scales . The Gold Dust pattern was thus associated with wealth and power. Typically it was woven from silk before about 1920 and after that from rayon, but very unusually this fine version is cotton with silk float motifs. It is a beautiful bright vibrant yellow and in excellent complete condition. Dates from around 1950s.

Measurements 293 cm x 201. 9’8″ x 6’7″.
