“When the cats away the mice will play.” A whimsical Fante version of the English proverb on this fine mid C20th Asafo flag, made for No 2 Company, probably in Anomabo. In this case the leading mouse is playing a drum. The cat has pale blue ‘piebald’ fur. The figures are attached by machine stitching but hand embroidered with silk thread around the edges. Probably made in the Anomabo workshop by an unidentified artist. Condition is excellent.
