FR661 – Unusual variant on the blue and white hand spun cotton koso walani prestige cloth tradition of the Fulani and Bamana peoples from Mali, this cloth is larger than is typical and has a regular grid of indigo blue and white rectangles crossed by carefully aligned weft stripes. They were owned and worn by important elderly men and women as a mark of senior status. Collected in Ghana where there is a centuries old tradition of importing fabrics from Mali, this piece dates from first half of the C20th and is in excellent complete condition.
