Beautiful Asante kente men’s cloth from Ghana, dark blue and white cotton strip weave ground with blocks of yellow and green or yellow and red rectangles across the central field. The rectangles echo the shape of Asante wooden shields and this traditional design was called “a thousand shields “. Typically these would be set out in a lattice arrangement but here they form stepped diagonals. In excellent complete condition, dates from circa 1930-1950s.
