1 in stock

Description

White handspun cotton strip weave tunic with narrow indigo blue stripes, for a chief or other senior man among the Kotokoli or neighboring people in the savannah belt of northern Benin Republic. The only example of this rare type of tunic that I have seen in this pattern. There’s fraying around the neck but otherwise it’s intact and neat, with no holes, one small mark on lining at lower edge.. Dates from the first half of c20th.

Measurements as shown, width 63 inches, 160 cm, length 46 inches, 117 cm. This is a very wearable garment as well as a beautiful display item.
