E1378 – beautiful checkerboard patterned Ewe chief’s cloth

1 in stock

Description

Indigo and white threads are plied together to form the speckled grey looking blocks in this beautiful checkerboard patterned Ewe chief’s cloth. Ewe weavers could apparently twist together two different coloured threads with a technique that involved throwing the spindle high in the air, Here white weft stripes separate the “grey” and indigo blocks throughout to pleasing effect. Dates from circa 1930-50. A few slight water marks near the edge, otherwise vey good condition.

Measurements 9’10” x 5’6″, 298 cm x 168.
