We love the blue and white check cotton background on this fine Asante kente chief’s cloth. Unusually the waver also used cotton rather than silk or rayon for the brightly coloured weft stripes and weft float motifs. The variety of colours in the weft faced blocks is exceptional, and suggests that this is perhaps the work of an Ewe weaver in the Asante style. In any event the result is a beautiful cloth. Dates from circa 1950 and is in excellent condition. Measurements 116 inches x 76, 295 cm x 193.
