Thick rustic hand spun indigo dyed cotton woman’s wrapper cloth from a region close to the town of Djougou in the northern savanna of Benin Republic. These cloths are unhemmed and hand spun blue thread was used to sew together the strips. Unusually this one has two different strip patterns. These cloths only showed up with some Accra dealers earlier this year, and have a different weight and pattern to more familiar indigos from Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso. In excellent complete condition. Date from second half of C20th.
Measurements 174 cm x 119, 69 inches x 47.
