AS577 – Fine 1960s Yoruba aso oke woman’s wrapper cloth woven from a mix of hand spun and industrial cotton, with a central pale blue warp stripe and a mix of openwork and floating threads. The hand spun thread gives a pleasing slubby texture. Beige cloths of this type were called “sanyan” by the Yoruba and continued an earlier tradition of naturally beige wild silk cloths that were high status garments for prestige ceremonials. This strong thick cloth would make a great furnishing fabric for pillows/cushions or upholstery. In excellent condition.
