Description

AS630 – This beautiful early C20th aso oke shawl cloth looks even earlier at first glance, having the alternation of blue and white check strips with two different warp striped designs that is typical of many nineteenth century aso oke. It also has a small silk from the Saharan trade in the float motifs and in narrow warp stripes on the blue strips. However closer attention reveals that it was woven a few decades later using mainly industrial cotton, giving it a different feel to the earlier pieces. It’s possible that it was deliberately woven in an earlier style to replace a family heirloom piece that had become worn out.  Retains it’s original hand sewn seams and hems and is in excellent condition.

Measurement: 74 ins x 40, 189 cm x 102.
