ASF171 – Fine 1970s Fante Asafo flag from No 4 Company, “Wombir”, Elmina. Two men with a complex animal trap, with heavy stone weights triggered when the animal passes through a small gate. Although traps are a popular flag theme warning rival companies, this particular type is is a very unusual image not seen in this form on other Asafo flags. By the artist Kwamina Amoaku (born 1898) of Anomabu (see Ross, Fighting with Art UCLA 1979.) This is a rare instance where both the Company and the artist can be identified. Dates from 1970s. Condition: Excellent.
