E1023 – On this carefully planned and neatly woven cotton Ewe kente men’s cloth pairs of two different types of weft faced blocks are alternated along the dark blue and white strips, The first type is simple weft faced stripes in multiple colours, the second a more complex type woven by varying the alternation of just two different colours. As a result of the way these strips are laid out so that the weft blocks are set next to plain areas on the adjacent strips the two pattern types form double rows across the finished cloth in quite a subtle sophisticated effect. Dates from circa 1930 – 1950. Condition is excellent.
Measures 117 inches X 66, 297 cm X 168.
