Description

Imagine how long it took to hand tie each of the tiny circles in this Yoruba “adire eleso” cloth. Eleso means “with seed” and each circle was made by tying raphia thread around a tiny seed. The cloth was then immersed in an indigo dye pot, drawn out to allow the colour to oxidise from green to blue, then re-dipped multiple times to achieve this rich even colour. From an old collection and dates to around mid C20th. In excellent condition.
Measurements 6’6″ x 5’4″, 197 cm x 163.
