Benin 1908 or 1909 Caption "Sakéte - Le Chef Odekoulé et sa suite et un féticheur" Photographer E.Fortier, Dakar
Sakéte was a small Yoruba kingdom north of Porto Novo. This picture looks odd for those familiar with more central Yoruba areas in Nigeria since we would expect that only a king could wera the beaded crown worn here by the ritual specialist ("féticheur") standing at the left.
